TYPE 9 Jules Wittock Black

The TYPE 9 Jules Wittock Black turns Ressence’s orbital display into a moving labyrinth. Belgian artist Jules Wittock’s freehand maze is milled directly into the black PVD-coated Grade 5 titanium dial in lines just 0.2 mm wide, then filled by hand with white lacquer and Grade A Super-LumiNova®. As the display rotates, the paths shift continuously; only at midday and midnight do the discs align to expose the concealed message.

Beneath the artwork, the patented ROCS 9 module translates the output of a customised automatic calibre into orbiting hours and minutes. The dial runs on a jewel ball bearing, while the eccentric hour satellite rolls on inclined jewel bearings at 9.75°. The black-coated 39 mm titanium case weighs just 42 grams with its strap and replaces the conventional crown with caseback winding and setting. Limited to 30 pieces, the JWB keeps the concept monochrome, graphic and mechanically active.
