Description

Look closely at the Fil d’Or: the dial isn’t printed at all. The cubes, the chapter ring and the hour markers are real gold, wired on.

Sylvie Villa and Mark Miehlbradt of Wire Art Switzerland are engineers by training, and their bonding machines were built for microchips. On a black lacquer base they lay 2,320 threads of 24K gold, each 25 microns thick, one at a time, and fix them with 3,660 solder points, a technique they have patented.

The case is 39 mm of polished steel, with the automatic Sellita SW261-1 and around 38 hours of power reserve behind a sapphire back engraved with its number. Limited to 99 pieces.

A beige grained calf strap leaves the gold to do the talking.
